How to do battle ropes
- Grab one end of each rope with your palms facing each other and feet shoulder width apart.
- From an athletic stance with knees slightly bent, brace the core and lower the shoulders.
- Shake the ropes creating alternate waves with fast arm movements.
- Keep the rhythm for 30 seconds without stopping, breathing in a controlled way.
- Rest 30-60 seconds and keep core tension during the entire set.
- Repeat for 5 sets and adjust the intensity to the strength of your wrists and shoulders.
Mistakes to avoid
- Do not shrug your shoulders or tense your neck while whipping; depress the shoulder blades and relax your face.
- Do not start with waves bigger than you can handle; prioritize a fluid rhythm over amplitude.
- If your wrists or elbows hurt or you lose control, slow down before changing the technique.
- Protect your back by keeping the trunk stable and not swaying side to side during the sets.
Progression
- Start with waves for 20 seconds at a medium pace and 60-second rests.
- Once you master the 5 sets, increase to 30-40 seconds of work or shorten rest to 30-45 seconds.
- To progress, switch to simultaneous double-arm slams, side waves, or add squat jumps between waves for higher cardio demand.
