How to do elliptical cross-trainer
- Sit on the rowing machine and adjust the foot straps so they fit securely.
- Grab the handle with palms down and sit tall with a straight back and a braced core.
- Drive hard with your legs, then bring the handle to your chest while leaning slightly back.
- Reverse the sequence: extend the arms, hinge the torso, and bend the knees to slide forward.
- Keep a steady cadence for 15-30 minutes without letting the resistance drop.
- Finish by easing the intensity gradually in the last 5 minutes to cool down.
Mistakes to avoid
- Do not pull only with your arms; the correct sequence is legs, torso, and arms.
- Do not round your back when extending forward or pulling; keep the torso firm.
- Do not lock your knees when driving the legs; keep a micro-bend and avoid snapping the recovery.
- Set the resistance to your level: if your back feels loaded, reduce the tension until you own the rhythm.
Progression
- Start with 15 minutes at an easy pace and add 5 minutes per week up to 30 minutes.
- Once you hold the pace without fatigue, raise the resistance a few levels while keeping your cadence.
- To progress, mix steady rowing with higher-intensity sections and track your distance to see weekly improvement.
